Behind the Art
3/26/2017
Just wanted to post a little info for my fellow artists who happen to find this page. Anyone using acrylic paint should be aware or beware the these paints are toxic to us and the marine environment. Just because the paints are water clean-up and water soluble is no excuse for putting them down the drain. The heavy metals and other ingredients are very harmful to the marine environment. Some of the colours use high concentrations of heavy metals like cadmium and copper. When small amounts (parts per billion) are put into the water it disables a salmons ability to smell or find its way to its home stream or river.
Because the Salmon is Sacred to me i had to find a way to clean-up my waste water from my art production. With a little research and the Golden paint website i found a simple solution and constructed an Acrylic paint removal system. Please check out this link to the simple process. http://www.goldenpaints.com/just-paint-article3.

AuthorSockeyeking artworks is in high production at this time. I am currently creating Serigraphs on aluminum panels. Its the aluminum that really sets these pieces off. By using translucent acrylic colours , the aluminum surface reflects light through the paint creating a real ocean colour and feel. Everytime you walk by a piece or the lighting changes, the ocean seems to come alive and the fish even appear to move, wow!. And for 2018 I am creating larger format pieces on paper and canvas to allow more space for larger numbers of fish, kelp accents, and of coarse lots of vibrant colours. Archives
